The Shield is a masterpiece IMO.

Well maybe not a masterpiece because it's no Wire, but it's definitely upper tier.

I wouldn't even back peddle, it's right there with The Wire/BB/Sopranos/Boardwalk for my money.

    I wouldn't either. I'd back pedal.

In my defense, I was partially distracted because I was actually re-watching the shield right now!

As far as criminals' wives go, I think the wife from the Shield is a lot better than Skyler from BB. For one, she's not a top-billed character, so if he vanishes until the writers need her then the show isn't conspicuously missing key characters. Her and Skyler go through a lot of the same beats, but Skyler suffered because the writers always had to find something for her to do. It was all plausible but it wasn't always interesting when the main action of the show is about a rising scientist drug kingpin. I guess the curse of TV writing is that you need to use all your characters. It's hard to phase a main character out who's outlived his/her usefulness without killing them (which is forced in its own way).

(Unless you're Game of Thrones or Walking Dead, from what I hear, but those are obviously exceptions.)

It was decent, but I never really found the main character that consistent.
Couldn't really reconcile the character they developed with the guy who killed the cop for being an informant in the opening episode.

Just binged on this last week. It's surprisingly good. The lead actors were excellent and it does a good job of dealing with a lot of the nuanced difficulties of teenage life. Some of the scenes towards the end were really powerful.

I don't really watch much tv but binge watched this show. They did a good job towards the end putting it all together to make the suicide more understandable. In the early to middle parts she came off as a whiny drama queen, making monsters of kids for some normal, petty hs things.

Not unreasonable. I don't disagree. I think even the creators admitted they played that hand way too early, but at the time they needed a big hook.

I agree that it's the worst thing Vic does for a long time. None of his other schemes are as bad when you take his perspective into view (he respects cops). It's almost like his downward spiral ignores that he hit rock bottom to start. That's why I pulled back from calling it a masterpiece.

The last few seasons that deal with the IAD investigation are fucking riveting though.

I was always hoping that Dutch the show would end in a showdown between Dutch and Vic. Dutch was my favourite.

Anybody see the new Prison Break yet? I haven't had a chance.
Loved the first season, and then it went downhill pretty fast. Don't see how they could make this good again, but I'll check it out anyways.
