I get what you're saying though. They only recorded instrumentals regularly in the 90s. It's a shame they didn't record more of them in their prime.
Yeah, I think people assume they have more instrumentals because a lot of their early stuff had long instrumental segments between vocal parts. But the actual front-to-back instrumentals they have are mostly from the 90s on.

I have been reading about and listing to a ton of Shostakovich lately and in the course of Googling, I randomly came across this guy who does heavy metal versions of his music. Works pretty well.

Great underrated "supergroup" band back in 2006. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_of_Anyone

Today in history... the band named Led Zeppelin unveiled their self titled album... and the rest is history. Best band ever by a wide margin, imo.

Had no idea Gojira put out a new disc in 2016. It's really good. Similar rhythmic metal stylings with a much stronger atmospheric element added. My favourite tracks so far:

Katatonia is a fantastic Scandinavian melodic metal band..graduated from fairly standard death metal to moody, ethereal stuff with purely clean vocals. Last Fair Deal Gone Down or Tonight's Decision are great places to start if you want to hear their newer, more artful (and in my opinion) better phase.

Jimmy Eat World - easily top 5 in the best bands I've ever seen live.

Whenever someone posts music on my Facebook or ITT, I'll listen to it no matter what it is. I like being exposed to stuff I wouldn't necessarily have thought to listen to otherwise and hearing what's there. This was a pleasant surprise.

I know this band by name but not much more about them. I just listened to their big single "The Middle" right now to see if it refreshes my memory and I feel like I've probably heard it before but it's just not the kind of song that would really grab my attention. This track, on the other hand, I find very engaging.

I enjoyed this as well. Not necessarily every track but a good chunk of it and I'm not even into the original bands.
