I love news. With the internet now, world news comes quick and is easily accessible. The big news topics generate lots of topics, and since I like to discuss (or argue) with people about news (especially the political and technology news) I thought why not start a thread? I know lots of view have various beliefs and I also know that y'all aren't afraid to express your opinions about it strongly too lol

So let me get the ball rolling: Crimea gets annexed by Russia after a whopping ~95.5% vote by the Crimean citizens to be annexed by Moscow. What's your thoughts about this? Right, wrong or indifferent?

Personally I think that since a lot of the citizens are of Russian decent (about 58% of their population) it was expected that they would vote to be part of Russia, but maybe not at what the final number was lol. Regardless I think that the West, especially the United States (who to this day celebrate the Iraqi presidential vote that happened during US occupation), shouldn't be pointing fingers since they've been doing this for the longest time. Also they should be wary of who they are threatening sanctions with, England is smart not saying anything big knowing that London runs on Russian oil. Russia seem to be in a commanding position right now, I really don't see them getting heavily penalized because of this. NATO won't start a war between the two and Ukraine know that all they can do is make threats because to the Russian army, the Ukrainian army is nothing.

That's just my opinion, would be interesting to see what you guys think!

Yup I just saw that it's so sad. At least we get some closure on this. According to the PM they used a new form of data analysis that was "never used before in a search for a missing plane" to conclude that it's flight ended in the Indian Ocean "far from any possible landing sites". It'll be interesting too see what data analysis they used and why it took so long to use it.

No kidding we still don't know how/why it ended up there. I just hope it's nothing awful like pilot suicide or something. For now though I think we can rule out terrorism pretty much.

Yup Muslim Brotherhood supporters. The whole Egyptian thing is funny. They went from wanting the Military and Mubarek out of power to a Muslim Brotherhood leader (lol @ thinking religion + politics will work) in Morsi and now back to Military control... apparently al-Sisi will win and he's the Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces... they kind of went in a circle

That was an absolute atrocity. That's very poorly-executed policemanship right there. Dude was trying to leave, and maintained that he wasn't harming anybody or anything.

Honestly, it makes me wonder how many homeless guys go missing due to police behaviour like this, and it's likely that nobody bats an eye.

I don't understand why lethal force is necessary for an entire team to bring down one man. Does putting on the uniform and carrying weapons really change the way people think and act? Society as a whole are slowly becoming more aware of the growing trend, I think it'll take one more big incident for people to actually start demanding change. Can't help but be reminded of that officer murdering the teenager on the streetcar last year.
