Right, 90% of people on a plane have to be somewhere very soon, that's the point. Also, 90% of companies have policies that suggest their services aren't guaranteed.

My problem with this isn't necessarily overbooking, it's the idea that company policies can/should be backed by force from the state. United had many better options to deal with the situation: driving the employees to Louisville (it's a 4.5 hour drive and they didn't need to be there immediately), increasing the reward until someone accepted, changing some schedules to have another crew man the next plane. Deciding to beat the crap out of a customer who has already paid is ridiculous.

I don't agree that is the point when 100% of headlines are identifying him as a doctor and in fact think you missed my point of his stature being irrelevant.

I meant that all of the points about him are irrelevant since everyone needs to be somewhere and that what matters is that he is a paying customer who got beaten up for not yielding to a company's policy. That a company can have the police beat you up for not following their policy is scary.

I'm of two minds about this.

It would be one thing to stiff passengers because you oversold the plane and everybody showed up, but to remove passengers to deadhead some flight attendants is seriously bullshit.

On the other hand, you have to be pretty nuts to refuse to leave a plane to the point of being removed forcibly. I think most people would have put up a stink but ultimately left peacefully and taken the compensation.

Were those cops that removed him? I agree with both these points. Refusing to do what cops tell you to in this country is always going to end in a bad time. lol Now I'm not saying that's ok but if I told the cops I wasn't getting off I couldn't imagine it ending well for me.

I don't think either case is right. The airlines should have to keep increasing compensation until people eventually volunteer. If that means they pay 10k each for the seats, so be it (unlikely it would get nearly that high). There's no way they should be allowed to bump people from a flight they've paid for, and who may miss other connecting flights or events they've also already paid for as a result.

    in lighter news.

This went about as well as you'd expect, and even though they've been deleting comments like crazy it seems as though the fans have decided on some variant of "Fat Brown Buffalo".

    I also like Chunk Yogurt.

So Delta did in fact change their policy after all this nonsense, allowing gate agents to now offer up to 2k for a seat and supervisors to offer up to just shy of 10k.

Timing seems a little weird. You'd think he'd at least wait until the result of his appeal, even if it's a real longshot (though he has top-notch lawyers working on it)

Did he spend any of his own money at the 2nd trial? Also seems like he could've saved that money to pass on to his kid
