    3B Josh Donaldson
    SS Troy Tulowitzki
    DH Kendry Morales
    C Russel Martin
LF Jay Bruce (against Lefties BJ plays down in order)
    1B Justin Smoak/Steve Pearce
    CF Kevin Pillar
    2B Devon Travis
No, it would make no sense. Pearce is a better hitter than Bruce and a better defender.

    Though...

    RF Fowler
    3B Donaldson
    DH Morales
    1B Encarnacion
    LF Pearce
    SS Tulowitzki
    2B Travis
    C Martin
    CF Pillar

^ If they can swing Edwin AND Fowler, this would be an amazing lineup. Probably wishful thinking, though.

Wouldn't that close the door on being able to offer JD a long term contract at some point? Don't get me wrong, I think it's highly improbable this FO would commit to that kind of money but it might prematurely close the door.

Door's already closed as far as I'm concerned. I give a 2% chance that the Jays extend JD, even without Fowler + EE.

I agree, if he keeps his production up I cant see the FO committing to the kind of money and term that he will command (and get from someone).
If he has another big season, that might be the right time to trade him, rather than let him walk and get next to nothing.

Good post. Ideally, I would've loved Jose back to DH full time for us. I don't think anyone can deny he's the superior hitter. And his eye is just tremendous, even in a down year.

That being said, I feel like Morales for $11 million will give us value. 3 years is a little too much for my taste, but they can always flip him later down the line if he's doing well.

I would 10/10 times, 100 percent prefer this situation/lineup. I just don't know if its in the budget or the cards. Here's hoping!

I can't even imagine what a Josh Donaldson extension would look like. 5 years 175M? If we struggle this year wouldn't be shocked if he's shopped.

That lineup Boxy posted is a beaut but seems fantasy. And wouldn't leave us any wiggle room for the bullpen while taking us over budget.

Here is hoping some of these young position players can come up and make the blow of all these future losses easier to absorb.

An order of Martin - Bruce - Smoak - Pillar hitting 5-8 would be the worst in baseball.

Not enough money for that line up. Offer the White Sox Stroman and a prospect (Pentecost, Rios maybe even Alford) for Eaton and use the saved money to possibly resign EE or Bautista to play first base.

    Eaton
    JD
    Bautista / EE
    Morales
    Tulo
    Pearce
    Travis
    Martin
    Pillar

Lol.. For a team with a payroll in the $140-160mil range, you better believe it would be the worst.
