Unfortunately it looks like they are going to give Latos atleast one more start.

The Jays want to tank like an NBA team. More Latos helps with that.

Bullpen is already shaky with him, so it fills one hole while creating another. But if Biagini can be an effective starter, then converting him now obviously improves the team's outlook for 2018 and beyond.

Our bullpen is going to look like shit if we take Biagini out of it but I'm also curious to see if he can succeed as a starter. We've only got 3 of the 5 filled out for next year.

But it's also easier to find bullpen help than good starters. I'm nervous about taking a chance with Joe but I also do think it's a worthwhile risk.

Biagini's basically the only guy holding the BP together right now.

You're absolutely right. At the same time the rotation is in shambles and the season isn't doing so hot either so you basically have to see what Joe's all about as a starter. As for the bullpen, you hope that a guy like Neil Ramirez pans out and then a couple of fireballers fall into your lap over the course of the season and magically regain the ability to throw quality strikes and focus on keeping the rotation above floating.

Yeah I like this move. I'm curious to see if Biagini can get through a lineup two and three times. If he can be a league average starter he'd provide a ton of surplus value on his current contract. It'd help us fill other holes so we can be competitive next year as well.

Gruber mocking aside, Biagini legitimately has a pretty nice arsenal, fit for that of an at worst 4/5th starter type. Like you said, it'll be interesting to see what happens when he's facing the hitters for a second and third time, how the fastball plays when it's some ticks slower, and if that big overhand curve has the same sharpness and soft-contact inducing abilities when hitters start to sit on some of his pitches.

How does Sparkman being on the 60 day DL effect his Rule 5 status? Can we just keep him on the DL the whole season and then retain him as a result?

I think that any lost days just carry over to next year.
