What is everyone expecting from Ohtani? Like assuming healthy what fWAR is your expectation from him.

I have him around 3 as a pitcher and 1ish on offense.

4.5 as a pitcher, 0.8 as a position player. Trade him to me. I'll take the pitcher, you can keep the hitter.

If you have him at 3 as a pitcher, we should talk in DDL

    4.8 as a pitcher. 0.4 on offense.

I threw money on the Angels yesterday at 50-1 for WS and 27-1 for AL champ. A little health and Pujols being replacement level would have them projected top 4 offense

Hmm actually, I may revise my estimate. I'd say 4.5 WAR/200 IP, however it's doubtful that he'll get near 200 IP in 2018.

I don't think he'll go over 160 IP next year so more like 2017 Robbie Ray than 2017 Gerrit Cole

I can't imagine he'd hit more than 170 IP. The team that signs him will want to protect his arm.

3.2 WAR as a pitcher, 1.1 WAR as a hitter.

The hype around Japanese pitchers are insane. He won't hit over 200IP so probably 2.8 fWAR as a pitcher and 0.8 fWAR as a hitter.

I have a feeling people are a little too optimistic on Ohtani (for next year at least). I'd suspect he'll be a lot closer to 2 WAR pitching and 0 WAR with the bat. I think he has the capability to progress towards the 3-4 WAR range, plus 1 with the bat though.

Tanaka put up 3.1 wins in 136 innings in his first year. Darvish put up 4.6 wins in 191 innings in his first year. I think you're too pessimistic.

Those guys were also a lot more experienced when they came over, and weren't coming off a mostly lost season at age 22. It's certainly possible Ohtani dominates, but no one should be projecting that off the bat.

He's 23. He's played professional baseball since he was 18. He's got big talent. Look at the Bumgarner, Strasburg even a guy like Cole let alone Kershaw. They were putting up good numbers at age 23. I bet most of the projections out there have him north of 2.

Aaron Sanchez put up 3.8 WAR at roughly the same age, and he was nowhere near as consistently dominant or impressive as Ohtani.

Have you watched video on this guy Abom? 2 fWAR is pretty light.
