    2018 Winter Olympics

Didn't see an Olympics thread. Figured there would be a few discussion worthy items over the next 2 1/2 weeks. They can go here...

Canada 1st in the Team skating Event after 2 events so far...

I wonder how many athletes will be caught singing the wrong lyrics before getting endlessly shamed on twitter.

I wonder if anyone in Trudeau's circle has turned their mind to the fact that the word "patriot" is clearly and fundamentally masculine.

1590s, "compatriot," from Middle French patriote (15c.) and directly from Late Latin patriota "fellow-countryman" (6c.), from Greek patriotes "fellow countryman," from patrios "of one's fathers," patris "fatherland," from pater (genitive patros) "father" (see father (n.)); with -otes, suffix expressing state or condition. Liddell & Scott write that patriotes was "applied to barbarians who had only a common [patris], [politai] being used of Greeks who had a common [polis] (or free-state)."

It's still not gender neutral argH!!!!

I'd watch most years. I love seeing events that I only get to see every four years like biathlon and cross country. I just wish they would move some of the combat sports (Boxing, Wrestling) to the winter to fit in with their true competition schedule (most are at their peak right now). I'm working most days but we have the streams on and will watch most medal events on replay. It's stupid the stuff I watch and notice now that I'm working in Games...it's like the athletes don't matter I'm looking at signage, volunteers, accreditation badges and shit like that.

asshole. Just wait until I spam this board with live feeds of these useless Circumpolar North "Athletes" performing the Finger Pull and Snow Snake (yes those are real events in our Dene Games portion).

Needless to say Portugal is the winner. Our two athletes already broke a national record. Germany Canada etc don't stand a chance.
