I look very much forward to cheering on England as it bows out weakly in the round of 16, maybe the round of 8.

Yup, we'll be lucky to get to the quarter finals! For once, there's not much expectation in England as we've been truly terrible in the last few tournaments.

It's the shirt, you put on that England jersey and it weighs 200 pounds on your back.

Looking forward to 4 or so games at local pubs in Toronto with people who look alot like me.

Hopefully all their games are officiated by blind idiots so their constant diving can pay dividends. I think the only way they can compete is by falling down and pretending to be injured.

A few WCs ago the US came out swinging the first second against Portugal and took an early 3-0 lead by surprise.

Group D is the only one where there are 3 solid teams (maybe Nigeria will also play well??) where I'd hate to pick 2 of them.

I think it's stupid that so few European teams qualify. Does anyone think Panama wouldn't be trounced by Italy or Holland? Egypt? Not really a tournament for the best of the best when shitty teams qualify because they are in the right area of the world.

Yeah Argentina look to be the most at risk of the really big teams.

Except for groups B and (hopefully!) E, picking the second team to go through in the other groups is difficult.

I would say that diving in soccer has become less of an issue than in basketball. I personally refuse to cheer for any team that will shut down a street in Toronto. So it's all Germany for me.

The intrigue for World Cup for me is that while there are countries that are better than others. but a good game plan can neutralize that. There will be huge upsets (while maybe not the winner) and it's great to see these people crying when it happens. I'll predict my winners in a moment. And there will be some upsets.

    Qualifiers

Group A - Russia and Uruguay (Egypt and Saudi's have a couple of the best goal scorers around though in Salah and Al-Sahlawi, they will score some goals. A much better group than most are saying and will at least have some scoring. Russia at home will get some extra help (mafia related)

Group B - Spain and Morocco (conceded just one goal in qualifying...and I hate Portugal)

Group C - Weakest group by far. France wins (but probably loses their opener as they do every year) throw the other three in a hat and pick a winner. I'll say Australia as they are the first alphabetically.

Group D - See ya Argentina. Nigeria and Iceland (how the fuck do they allow teams that qualified out of the same group to play) make it through. Croatians burn most of Russia in response to another loss to Iceland.

Group E - Best Brazilian team ever or the worst South American year ever. They blew through qualifying with 14 different goal scorers. We'll go Costa Rica for the second spot. They will have incredible games and some terrible games.

Group F - Germany and Sweden. My two teams. Toughest group by far...South Korea will actually get out over Sweden but I like to think Sweden is going far.

Group G - I'd like to see England disappoint again...but they got a good group. Panama is the worst team there. Tunisia gave up 5 goals to Mauritania and Congo. It's Belgium and England getting out.

Group H - Japan wins the group. Probably Colombia also

    Iceland over France
    Russia over Morocco
    Uruguay over Spain
    Nigeria over Australia
South Korea over Brazil (fuck the best team they have ever had)
    Japan over England
    Germany over Costa Rica
    Colombia over Belgium

    Russia over Iceland
    Nigeria over Uruguay
    South Korea over Japan
    Germany over Colombia

    Russia over Nigeria
    Germany over Colombia

    Germany over Russia.

Chances I would put money on any of this happening is zero.

No Italy means I probably won't bother with it.

Sorry mate but thatís the worst set of predictions iíve seen in a while, haha.

TBF thereís always shocks and at least one team that goes further than expected. As I said earlier, teams and players playing against unfamiliar foes is part of the magic and uncertainty of the World Cup.

But South Korea (youíve got a typo and put Colombia) Nigeria and Russia all in the semis? No chance, haha.

I would have had Chile as the shock team to get to the quarters or better, but they failed to even qualify. Perhaps this is the year that Mexico finally does something?

They’ll be missed, I’m still shocked they failed to qualify (for the first time since 1958).
