It always troubled me a little bit that the Dodgers wanted no part of keeping him at a seemingly reasonable 20M AAV at the time

That probably means something. Though it was probably just an unwillingness to commit to 4 years.

Their rotation was stacked at that point wasn’t it? Probably partly injury concerns and partly the term.

They finished the year in 2019 with a rotation of:

    Ryu
    Buehler
    Kershaw
    Maeda
    Hill

Stripling was swing man of course and they were keeping him at that point
Urias was emerging as a probable front line starter

I guess they felt they didn't want to gamble on Ryu being healthy for 4 years

It was the term fellas, nothing more, when the Jays offered the 4th year, he signed.

Probably yeah. They did win the WS in 2020 so I guess it was the right decision.

How about the multiple time silver slugger they have out in RF and batting clean upthat they gave up nothing to get?

I'd say for the most part they have been pretty good at trades too.

Grichuk has been almost a full win better than Tapia.

    Grichuk has 0.1 WAR

Tapia gets too many at bats, but he's not the problem, and neither is Randal fucking Grichuk being gone the problem.

    The problem is:

    Kirk - 98 wRC+
    Bichette - 95 wRC+
    Chapman - 85 wRC+
    Gurriel - 74 wRC+
    Teo - 45 wRC+

oh, and a league worst batting with RISP

Randall fucking Grichuk....come on, gimme a fucking break.
