Julian Merryweather DFA’d to make room for Brandon Belt.

    End of an era.

Sad the Jays had nothing to show for Josh Donaldson after trading him. Oh well, can't win them all.

It was actually an embarrassing deal. Anyone that argued otherwise was being a homer. We traded a former MVP for a guy who gave us 2 good innings lol.

Good thing is that we are clearly past that era of the Jays. I'm pumped for opening day.

Damn, high hopes after that, too bad he's glass. I'm surprised they cut him.

Meh, I think the Jays did get unlucky with JD in terms of the timing. They should have traded him when his value was still high like in 2017 or in the offseason. They waited too long. He was injured for the majority of 2018, on an expiring contract - don't think they would have got anything much better than Merryweather at the time.

Two most dominant innings by a Jays reliever I think ive ever seen. Makes sense why we held on to him for so long through all his injuries. Would have liked to have kept him around for at least another spring to have one final stab at it.

Mishandling of Donaldson is the No. 1 knock on Shatkins. Of course we don't know the behind the scenes details, but damn.....

Opening day at Yankee stadium, never forget that inning. Dude was untouchable. But I suppose most pitchers can look untouchable for a few innings each season.

Why DFA Merryweather instead of Thornton?

FWIW some dude on the sports gambling forums I peruse with a pretty decent capping track record would tail Thompson's starts pretty religiously. There was something in his pitching that the guy's modelling obviously liked relative to what Vegas lines were offering.

Must be something they know they we don't. Like medical/injury info/recovery.

Well hell, this again. Expected as Merryweather gets DFA'd. For all of you still with Donaldson PTSD, just pretend the trade was Donaldson and Liriano for Merryweather and Hernandez and shut the fuck up already. Four years of whining about this while at the same time the team played the Liriano situation perfectly.

Because one guy actually has a good chance of pitching in SOME meaningless games and not being on the IL all year
