Ya, no more 1 game wildcard round. They also eliminated game 163, and will use a different tie breaker method.
I'm guessing that if we adopt this, the ideas is to make it effective immediately?

#3 division winner vs. #3 wild card
#1 wild card vs. #2 wild card
Yeah I was just thinking 12 is divisible by four and that's fine but that's not how math works. It would have to be either 8 or 16 to not have byes.
Option A is what you said
The two best division winners in each league get a bye in week 1 and then starting in week 2 there is a normal 8 team playoff field. So a 4 week playoffs.
Option B which is perhaps more fun is:
division winners #1 and #2 play each other in week 1 and the winner gets a week 2 bye i.e. a bye straight to the ALCS / NLCS

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I don't think that Option B works . After the first week, you would have 4 teams left per league. If you were to give the 1/2 winner a bye, I don't think that the math works on matchups.

1/2 loser in week 1 is DONE

I think this would be it. Same thing the MLB is doing. Same number of rounds as there has always been.
Are we really interested in changing our playoff format? Making it easier for teams to get in?

Exactly. We originally modeled our playoffs off of MLB's, can't see why we wouldn't continue following their lead. It's similar to when we increased our active rosters to 26 players from 25 to align with MLB rules.
