He’s got a 4.75 ERA and not much better FIP. That would classify as back-end. I could cherry pick out a good start to make his numbers worse, just like you could a bad one. What good is that.
He’s been a disappointment. Doesn’t mean he won’t turn it around, or that it’s a bad contract already. It’s just facts. I’m not betting against him. The whole thing is just still up in the air on which way it goes
I'm sure you can recognize that one extremely bad start is having an outsized effect on his overall season numbers right now. His overall numbers as a Blue Jay are right at his career averages, and aside from one putrid start (I'm giving him a mulligan on that one due to several circumstances including the super long pregame ceremony which may have affected his warmup routine) his ERA and FIP are once again right at his career averages. In this rotation he looks to be the number 3 starter given the strong starts of Manoah and Gausman. If he continues to produce at his career rate the contract will be perfectly fine, but he has displayed potential for better than that at times so there may eventually be surplus value to be had.

You can charm a manager, but you can't hypnotize a walrus.

Zueletta on the mound tonight for Vancouver.
Gabriel Martinez has 2 HR today. Quickly shooting up prospect lists this season
He’s been one of my favourite prospects to follow this season. Still only 19 years old, so 2 years younger than the average age in A-ball.
April splits: .183/.290/.250, .540 OPS
May splits: .369/.411/.714, 1.125 OPS
17% strikeout rate, 9% walk rate, .312 BABIP. So good peripherals and not outrageously lucky either.
Home Run #1: 104 mph
Home Run #2: 109 mph
We seem to have really good luck with prospects whose name start with Gabriel M.

Any reason why Zulu was pulled after only 64 pitches? Hasn't he been consistently going past that?
