I don't think it is. WAR accounts for positions and I don't agree that we should necessarily induct inferior players like Ortiz simply because their position is under represented. It's hardly a given that he would have provided more value if he had played at first base or another position.

Why do we hold defense against a better player like Manny Ramirez. Would he be first ballot if he were considered a DH instead?

Seems to be trending in the direction of some of these alleged steroids guys getting in. Ortiz obviously becomes the first who was widely suspected…about the same evidence against him as Bonds/Clemens.. but I think it’s clear his warm and fuzzy relationship with the media pushed him past the last hump the others can’t get over

First Ballot HOF's, a god damned joke, just as bad as leaving the aforementioned guys off the ballot.

I’d like to have seen how Delgado would have fared on this ballot had he found a way to traverse his way to get here. Hell, even if he had been able to hold out and retire one year later, it would have been beneficial to get past the ballot he faced on his first and only ballot.
About same as Helton? Both Carlos and Helton on the same rumored 2003 failed test list. Along with Pedro and alomar.
